Carl Sagan
During a short break from the daily #digital work due to #socialdistancing and #intelligent #lockdown 1 and 2, I picked up a #book, not totally coincidental I think, from one of the greatest #visionaries: Pale Blue Dot by @CarlSagan.
In a #time where an invisible #enemy like a #virus threatens #humanity, reflections on the impact and our #life after this #pandemic cross the #mind. It reminds us of how #fragile we are and brings us back to #rethink our #ambitions and way forward towards a “new” normal.
I happily share a few lines from the #book that in my opinion paint a #picture of the now and the sense of urgency to change the #future.
“Look at that dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
“The earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.
“Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.”

“There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we have ever known.”
The world to mankind
Bringing this message even closer home @chrismorriss put words together that speak to everyone, sending out the message that we are merely guests and never will become the master.
It is clear that whatever economic, power, status system we design and implement to maximize global efficiency for the benefit of a small portion of the population, in the end, life, mother nature, and earth will come back to balance it all. Making no difference in color, religion, norms, and values knowing no borders and no culture.
The “new” normal can not be achieved by money or by power or by status. It can only be achieved through a more humble and human-centered mindset. We need to teach and change our thinking, our approaches, our higher-level purpose. Being more conscious of our actions and our deeds. It is not about circular. It is all about finding a balance for all humankind in sync with mother nature.
Be the change
As Gandhi send out the message to reach and inspire everyone to play their part. In his words lie the key to the goal of a well-balanced life and more.
